TELLING NONIE

A few months before the war began, a rare and unexpected meeting took place on the border between Gaza and Israel. Different from anything you could imagine.

At the age of 88, Geizi Tsafrir reflects on his early days in the Shin Bet and his involvement in a targeted assassination operation carried out by Israel in the 1950’s Gaza Strip. He discovers that the target’s daughter, Nonie Darwish now lives in Los Angeles and decides to write to her without telling her about his role in the case. Thus begins Geizi’s re-examination of the first targeted assassination that Israel conducted. As he reunites with his partners in the operation, he uncovers new and unsettling information and decides to take action – to reveal to Nonie all he knows about her father’s death, hoping it will ease his troubled conscience.

Telling Nonie has achieved critical acclaim, winning Best Documentary at the 2023 Haifa International Film Festival, the Audience Choice Award at the Punta del Este Jewish Film Festival, and the Award for Intercultural Dialogue in the Jewish Film Festival Berlin & Brandenburg, and has also been screened at various festivals around the world, including ZagrebDox and the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival.
